January 19, 2005it's a good questionI left a comment on this post because I am amazed at the number of people who don't know the correct answer to this question: Put these in chronological order: The Russian Revolution The French Revolution The American Revolution Can YOU do it? Comments
AFR Posted by: Rick on January 19, 2005 01:14 PMWell they are in a backwards chronological order. But I do have to ask . . . for clarification . . . I am assuming the Russian Revolution is the Bolshevik Revolution.... Posted by: Chris on January 19, 2005 01:19 PMExactly why we homeschool our kids! Posted by: wmprof on January 19, 2005 01:25 PMMust be history week . Posted by: James Old Guy on January 19, 2005 01:33 PMyep afr Posted by: rightisright on January 19, 2005 01:35 PMToo easy. Posted by: Jay on January 19, 2005 01:36 PMToo easy is right. And ditto what wmprof said. Before we started homeschooling the kids they could not put WWII, the Civil War, and the American Revolution in proper order. They couldn't get even close to the century of either the American Revolution or the Civil War. Now they can! Posted by: Mrs. du Toit on January 19, 2005 01:41 PMWhat about the Glorious Revolution? Ya know, King Billy and the Protestant Wind? Oh yeah, that Russian thing is a good excuse to teach some astronomy, concerning Gregorian vs. Julian calendars. Octobrists? Pphhtt! Posted by: Justthisguy on January 19, 2005 01:56 PMI guess I made a stupid comment...sorry...my clarification was in order to seek comment on which Russian Revolution we are speaking of....
Well, Chris, there were the Decembrists... Posted by: Justthisguy on January 19, 2005 02:06 PMWell it would be foolish to discount the revolution of 1905, which really highlighted the problems of the society and was instrumental in defining the lead characters in the 1917 revolution.... Of course, one could also discuss Catherine and other leaders who led uprisings... Posted by: Chris on January 19, 2005 02:32 PMWhat about the Glorious Revolution? 1688! Then again, John Locke's Treatises were assigned reading in my first political theory class as an undergrad -- made a significant impression on me for reasons I still can't figure. Furthermore, that whole era of British history also relates to my genealogical studies of the last ten years or so. Could be worse -- my heritage could be Russian. What about the Aprillists? Posted by: McGehee on January 19, 2005 02:44 PMFrench In that order. Oops. Excuse the FUCK outa me. That's what I get for posting off the top of my head with no research. I placed the Frog Revolution about 40 years too soon. Posted by: Ralph Gizzip on January 19, 2005 08:08 PMRalph, I didn't know the French came after the American either until last summer. The way they talk they led us to it. Theirs was a disaster, but they did manage to win a war, against themselves. Posted by: Ga-ne-sha on January 20, 2005 03:38 AMGA-NE-SHA, I don't think it was a matter of winning a war against themselves, they just couldn't surrender as fast as the other group.
